thank you so I'm going to just share my screen and from there exactly what this says it's a parent student guy and everything we share with you as parents and we will be sharing with students one of the hopes that we have this year is every truly are Partners we're not asking parents to be teachers but we're asking to be part of the partnership with us we will go through and the first couple weeks of school to review some of these new things with our students and give them a chance to become comfortable with things so it's not a matter of that they don't know how we will go through and we will teach them what they need to we just they just might you're supporting your comfort to know that it's going to be okay and which is why we want to go through this presentation okay so what you'll notice is on the Second Avenue receive this presentation their links to all of them that are in the presentation should you be able to click on that and that would give you the information one of the biggest things that we're going through this year that will be different and the middle school closings have 6th graders coming in you will have had a different experience than the current 7th and 8th graders but we had a different I'm going to go through and talk about in terms that we saw prices teaching in crisis learning that happened in the spring we don't believe we're a crisis teaching and learning mode now we think we are thoroughly plan and we believe that the resources that we are putting into place will help our students in your child to grow who in this atmosphere and not have a placeholder that's happening so you will notice there will be live instruction every day for the duration of the. That doesn't mean that your child will have the face on screen the entire time with the whole class maybe opportunities where they will do small groups that we talked about these breakout room there may be a blank screen with a timer saying how you're going to do a little independent work and come back on the street so all of this has been put into the planning for teachers as well are teachers as well as part of the process and putting this together so all of this is coming in to buy to be able to make sure we take the whole child into consideration for this what are the things that we are going to ask you if there's any way possible as the parent and guardian is to try and create a place in the home to the student knows if that's their work space like even as an adult working from home if I'm working in five different rooms I sometimes can feel their distractions whereas if I have one location that I did my office you can easily go through that okay this is my work phone and not some really hoping that we can designate some type of work space at home broker for their bedroom the dining in the living room whatever it is but to be able to minimize as many distractions as possible and really make that then have that sense of ownership for that space is going to come here this is why I work so however it's possible to do that that's what we would encourage that we can go through till what we want to talk about next are the resources that we provide and some of these will be very familiar to you and some may just be a reminder every student in our district Race 3 through 12 and something I did forget to say which I apologize all of these presentations that are happening in k 2 3 5 6 8 9 12 worth are very similar they will have a unique Swiss with a pencil bringing some things in so if you happen to have child in multiple Grace it's not important for you to come to each of these as long as you come to one you will get the whole flavor of what we're throwing out Google me but what we have learned through Xoom is as a lot more fun reality and ease-of-use for both the teacher and the student and the ability it has suited to give a foot into putting the small groups there's a white board to work on there's a lot more educational aspect to zoom right now so that's going to be our primary we are not getting rid of Google me but June will be our major platform that we will use and again we will teach the children how to go through Jillie Mack student great portals will be important portal Council be important for both parents and students and then we were made available for parents needed is a Wi-Fi system for home so if you have ADD accessibility problem in the home that you're Whip and with his enough for you need some more supports for was optional for them if you're going to have to we're going to have to show up so they're going to come we're going to we need them to show their faces as well there is an option for virtual background so if there's something that you don't need a Kyle doesn't have their own space by themselves you know they can put up over school back in that would be really helpful for them we will be grading students this year unlike last year where are they I'm like last year were they yet rated so he's not even working getting grayed out. once I apologize and with the remote schedule as you receive the presentation you will be able to go to that so I'm assuming I'm not sure if you want to just to talk a little bit about lunch what's going to work the world that would be if we were in now yes all right so few I so our schedule for this year for all remote learning what's going to be different this year in our schedule that we are actually going to be running a full day schedule what we did to hopefully make it easier for families that have more than one Middle School more than one Middle School student scheduled one one. That way if students are in the same home we'll have lunch will have this hour break between Bank near me we're still hearing feedback I see some I see things that are not can you hear me now can you hear me now yeah okay alright so I'll start from the beginning again talking about our schedule so schedule is going to be a little bit different is this. not really I don't I don't know what the father there's no noise around me I will try to is it bad yeah yeah okay I am so sorry about that I have no idea what was I didn't hear any feedback on my end so I how do you know I do it and you can do is talking about so we're talking about what is different about remote learning this year from last year so for starters our schedule is different so created a schedule that is going to be a full day schedule we're going to wear last year they only had it. We were really thoughtful about it and he we went from free lunch periods to just one we thought that would make it easier for families who have multiple middle school students are all of the kids the middle school kids in the house would have this our block of i r e at the same time so way that way they'll be able to have lunch together and built into that our block is also academic support so if your child needs extra health or they how to check in with the teacher and maybe they didn't get something or maybe the teacher wants to meet with them the teacher will have office hours for Fort Stevens to be able to do that so that was one of the things was putting that won our block just for lunch what that also did was that also helped us to make the day a little bit kind of cut into there Pine-Sol the day is its three periods in the morning and then three periods after lunch so that should make the give them a nice break from the screen in in Nostra. One of the experience is going to be a good dad or music or World Language so today is going to be broken up for them for fully so that were able to also get them into some movement classes so they're not just sitting in front of the screen the whole time some of the other differences this year on that issue we are aspiring season 2 dissipate why so we want them to show their faces on the camera we understand you know students live in different environments and in some cases might be some little kids in the house or some older kids and they might be sharing a dining room space there you know trying to carve out a little niche for themselves so they do have to be lies that they can use the background if they want to find a block out other people that are in the house so that way you would only be able to see this student so we are asking that they are are showing up also we talked about this schedule teachers you know it's still possible that teachers are going to be action what we will have what we are going to continue to do is use our own staff members to cover teacher app and save having accepted to come into this remote world and try to use the technology I don't think it's a really viable Solutions. the teachers will be posting all of the work on Google classroom but there will also be another Chi Chien or a teacher kind of substituting actually that will also be available to work with the students breakfast and lunch is November 9th at 1 more limo is going to be similar to last year I don't believe anything's been finalized yet but it's still going to be the pick up at Grace Norton Rogers or Ethel McKnight school so you'll be able to go pick up breakfast and lunch Deli or 4 we got is fine but that is still an option for our family February 16th Sandy I finished mine that we notice is that when Witnesses have the consistency of schedule they must know okay this is my time to so that's why you're going to notice that students will be required to be on screen or at least in a group or taking time on Basin what teachers do for the duration of it. It will not just be a screencastify real look at a video and then they're sent off home for two hours they will have the actual last time that will be assigned and the amount of work that will be happening on screen just like if it was in the photo for Traditional School day images Emerson talked about this CCR about us attending our session and it's not even that we are encouraging students to attend that is a requirement if a parent does not follow child out or use Dennis's to call child out sick that day and they do not show up on the screen for class then the system from Slender the teacher will be reaching out to see if there is a problem is a child sick is there anything that you need supports with from Us The Duo you stand that there are situations when internet goes down and we would be very mindful of that but we also want to be reminded that we are trying to create the atmosphere of true learning that's going so we'll work through wherever we have an issue but that's why if you need any of the Wi-Fi connectivity will be more than happy to share that with you here's one of the biggest issues that seem to have taken place last year that we believe that we really put a big emphasis on the summer and planning students will not be receiving a grade because they show up and can't work in there will be traditional Grace but one of the things that we've been able to do is take the opportunities for growth and how we assassin how we grade students and some of that would be in these on the screens we can have some chats that are happening to students have to respond to we have a couple of those electronic resources that what the teachers are we using during York last time that we'll be able to give verbal cues or thumbs up thumbs down any of our formative informal assessments but we will also be able to go through and actually assess students during the actual class. Which I want to talk about in a minute and then one of the things that we will encourage parents and Guardians to do is regularly checked with your child let them know what they're missing let them say hey did you go and ask the teacher for some help is there something that you're missing like be there I'm and we're going to try to as much as possible to stick to the makeup policy that's in the handbook and this is so that students understand accountability will there be some exceptions based on things that happen absolutely going to try and make that an exception rather than the rule this is Emerson alluded to some of this and so this is one of the things that we are trying to make sure that we're going to sell our parents but we're also going to be able to emphasize this with our students in the so we're running through things quickly with you we will be doing this in detail with the students and every teacher will be emphasizing this and giving it to a learning curve so the students are with us so nobody is going to be held level four things the first day we're going to work through with some soap as Miss Emerson said we are going to expect that every student space is visible in the camera everyday we do understand as Miss Emerson said that sometimes embarrass so they don't see the room because they have a picture that they like and nobody else in the class like where they're living room or dining room isn't what they're asking no Joe Schmo has so we're going to teach them how to do a backdrop for themselves who's your favorite picture or seen from outside or whatever it is they have there so it can be comfortable for them to deal on Spring music seems to be on time for classes there's a small amount of time between classes if a child needs to get up to run the restroom to go through and get a drink any of that will have one of the things that we have in mind full of infuriating this schedule and their lesson plans for teachers is it we want to make sure each and every class that we have we want to prevent we want to present time so that students can get up out of their seat because most of us who have been working from home and door remote know you're much more stagnant and sitting much more frequently so I don't want our kids sitting down from 8 until 3 we're going to try and get them up for a few minutes each class. Just for them to move around since the Blood start circulating again we really haven't eaten have many issues with the respect it's on I'll be online platform in the spring we want to make sure that this is a no judgement zone that we can say anything that you have a question with any help you need we're here to help and support you the only thing we will keep on telling you is that contact the teacher or contact building administrator if you see something that's not right in your eyes we can either explain to you why things are happening or you're bringing something to our eyes that we need to take a better look at and you're going to see this last bullet on a couple of slides but it's part of our job is to make sure they were taken care of all of us that includes you as a parent the child and the teacher so that any administrative so that we make sure that we can put our best foot forward in this joint juncture that we have about teaching and learning with our students have fun and hopefully some of this that is on here is exactly what I'll miss Emerson and I had already spoken about that whether or not we say hey you know what I'll do a side shatter I put my raise my hands I've got to run to the restroom some of that when it happened in the past. We're going to take care of all of that with our students so you won't have to worry about that and then this Emerson if you want to continue so bored you know it's harder what's the state for kids to be connected to school when they're not actually in school but we still want them to feel like they're in school we still want them to feel like what they're doing is relevant and meaningful and so one way that you can help them feel that way is just by checking in with them often so you know before they start school asking them what classes they have some for the middle school students they are going to have all the your classes but they might have music or they might have is that on a particular day asking if they have any test review the grades portal with them in the morning just fits me if there's any I have work that they need to make up for that they might something in might need extra help with so maybe even reminding them today you wouldn't want to ask your teacher to meet with you for academic support to get some extra help just checking in with them making sure that they're ready for school that they have everything prepared just to engage with them and ask them about that I'm also monitor their assignments with them so this this is going to be a great light of great skill for students to learn which is like kind of self-management and stuff is it going to be important for them to be able to monitor their assignments then to keep track of what suit teachers will make sure that all of that is in Platinum but it's not like when you're in school and AC on the truck border on the Whiteboard everyday so making sure that they're able to monitor what to do and that they keep a calendar for Judy Jovi like ice is it still for them to practice if that I use one so I mean and I know Sandy touchdown this earlier before making sure that there's an open line of communication for the teacher I just keep in mind this is really new for all of us and our teachers are very committed to learning with to learn their very committed to making finding time and making opportunities to meet with students especially if they're struggling this is hard burning display is hard but if if we are together and we all really Valley around her students then we're going to get the best benefits for everyone involved are you know we're all working so your teacher your assistant principal counselors child study team members were all here to support you as well so you can email us for any of that him for any questions or concerns that you had Ikea this light is really just you know it gives you some some ideas of who you can contact and why you would contact them so you know if there's an issue with if you have a question homework or a fast worker or anything is happening in the classroom you're going to contact your future if you have any questions or concerns regarding your students academic Behavior emotional well. can we talk to the counselor child study team member administrators you can help you with that we we return off communication within a half hour but of course if you have something urgent you know you can but usually were able to discern that just come from the email or this was not that we got to say something I don't want to hold anybody accountable for because Lori I'm not sure if you realize that you said within a half our time frame is usually 24 hours to make sure we get back but as Miss Emerson said if there is an urgent thing then we would get back to you immediately but all of our emails and phone calls we have a policy that we say within 24 hours that you should hear someone sorry all the people that Thomas Emerson just talked to you will see all the Middle School contact me they will all be there for you to be able to click right on this link and be able to know who you go to at any given point one thing that I did not share from the proper sliders Weaverville District resources for in grades 6 through 8 will be Chromebooks as well as the Wi-Fi routers we are expecting that as our students are in classes during the school day that the district lighted device be used and there's a reason behind that which I want to talk about in One Loudoun outside when you're doing your homework and all that can use any device A1 but during this in classroom instructional timer asking for the Chromebook to be used and the reason for that is multiple things are often times in a lesson that the teacher all the sudden cease that shootings aren't catching up to where they need they sometimes want to be a support and resources right there on and by using our devices we will have connectivity to be able to put those device those resources immediately in students hands and on your screens where is if we were not using our devices you have to go through email and student store put it on Google Fast and having people go in and reconnect we want to make this as seamless as possible so we can do that with our district devices it will also help support in the normal assessment that will be given that teachers right when kids are taking it and we don't have to worry about the security of assessment and we can make sure students have what they need and that's really the reason behind the two reasons behind why we need to use our district devices that lend out during that time frame Rocket summer you know you've heard a lot about heroes right now in this whole new world of teaching and learning and parenting if you will receive a lot of here you would. aliens are heroes are students are heroes being resilient in doing what they need to be able to move on and grow in this atmosphere are teachers administrators so we're staying together let's become the heroes for kids when they can see us that if we're combat they're going to be able to become if we're not complex reach out and ask for the support I never want anyone to go through this year with having anxiety issues that we can address for you if we can address I believe it when it comes to education we're here for you we will support you in whatever way we can and has crazy or is as touche the sound this last fly tells us it will work and the biggest thing that we want to make sure that as we move forward in this year is it we make sure that our kids have the ability to grow and learn and nurture them along the way so
