Jolly yes what's the week's yes already Monday slow my computer is slow today going back and forth with a new button it resolved at the East Windsor Regional School District May hold three closed sessions at this meeting on August 23rd 2021 these closed sessions Hib appeal Personnel Donaldson hearing and administrative recommendations Minnesota is closed sessions will be made available to the public when the need for confidentiality no longer exist Mystery Show this land is Murphy Lee Mr Weekes yes celebrity okay with that we have we have thermal items as you just break were the first one as mentioned in the advertised agenda that is could take up to an hour and we expect to be back around 7 to continue to the public portion the hoodies we're back we ran about 20 minutes over our plans agenda the next is are super than its report as soon as soon as you have your cell phone good evening everyone. well a few updates as we prepare for the beginning of the school year or two things I like the Highlight this evening I start with on the agenda tonight we're asking the board to approve some curriculum revision updates and response to the anticipated learning loss and learning acceleration that we need to engage in as we approach the school year ahead so the office of curriculum instruction for working to update our curriculum Sola by Across the entire Continuum break through 12 to relearn and review essential Concepts as they transition into the school year so as much as we move students quickly we need to be mindful of where they are when they arrive and the correct in the reconfigured to make sure that we addressed certain standards that may not have been addressed as fully as we would have liked during the past year-and-a-half someone to think our content area supervisors and our teachers who participated in the curriculum revisions as summer under the leadership of any small or assistant superintendent of curriculum and assessment tomorrow we are going to welcome about 55 new Educators to our school district we have our annual new teacher or new staff orientation which is a three-day event will be Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday great opportunities. I feel very very optimistic about folks joining our school district this is an opportunity for us to really kind of welcome and after meet our new Educators to the culture the vision and mission of our school district obviously don't get it brought a sense of our community and then we kind of take it down to a granular level as a relates to learning their specific Department connecting with their specifics. So having an opportunity to meet our administrative team but also their new colleagues still be aligned with so it breaks what about the three days ahead quick update regarding sport transitioning into a spoilsport season preseason is underway we've got great numbers for participation this year. I thoroughly believe courage. going to Avail themselves to our Athletic program we're going to have the high school level three levels of boys soccer just based on the turnout two levels of girls soccer three levels of field hockey and I will have our freshman JV and varsity football teams attendance and cross-country teams have more than enough to kill the varsity roster as well as compete at the junior varsity level the middle school-level we have over 150 students register we're in the process of getting physical cleared and so forth so we can begin the transition and there's two activities and competition for the for the fall in terms of what's coming up this a Friday August 27th will be the color green lighting or the door opening of our parent portal within Genesis so if you're at the elementary level I'll just leave this is an opportunity for what's the login to identify who did Charles teacher will be I believe the whole room location will also be there and I think the transportation information with the students eligible for bussing at the middle school now but I think there will be a whole room notification of sugar Academy the students connected to I think the counselor as well as Transportation information in at the high school level schedules for the year in addition to obviously a counselor information as well as Transportation information I don't have a definitive time for when that will be released but you should expect to receive a communication from your child school I'll want to stay within the next day or two regarding what I think that released under the one point I think it was 4 p.m. probably made me get someone earlier in the day Tricia Smith Nations associated with the update that was shared on August 16th regarding returning to school and others a few questions at least surface and we've had some up mation share my screen mirror or you're going to get more information boat from the district but also from the school album like it was kind of elaborate on a few of those areas and about can you please hear my screen here do we live in a couple things we talked about cleaning and disinfection as we started last year has been obviously with pudding on ensuring that both areas that are frequently occupied and surfaces that are frequently touched and we're going to make sure that there's going to be a routine process to ensure that those areas are clean in the bathroom the one area in particular we want to make sure we have a rotation ensuring the custodians are are are paying close attention to those areas and obviously we're going to have our sanitize sanitize and stations throughout building this more than classroom will be no alcohol disinfectant wipes work in the classroom as well as hand sanitizer there's going to be a combination of a daily cleansing disinfecting of each room which will entail traditional cleaning process from going to top to bottom in addition to cleaning the desk surfaces light switches doorknobs excetera we're also going to have a situation where students will also be engaging and wiping off the surfaces without alcohol wipes with in classrooms terms of contact tracing this is something that it's an unfortunate reality but that's something that we need to make sure that we have here too and you know we've talked about contact tracing is being an individual whose 760 to 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour. They have four depending on how we situate students within classroom at the elementary level is easier for us to manage we will out this been an update actually in terms of the Department of Health last week at the end of last week shared information about connected to a CDC recommendation and this is for schools only and that's related to students in a classroom seated between 3 and 6 feet with masks on a spino appropriately wearing mask those individuals are not be deemed as close contact I bet that's a school only that's only student-to-student this does not apply with students teachers so that's something that we we we learned out late last week and obviously we need to investigate that a little bit more but we will definitely look to see how we can put that in for planning as we move for in terms of I mentioned something about vaccinated versus unvaccinated no in terms of our guidance regarding the CDC and the Department of Health obviously there was a differentiated approach to on back cheetah versus vaccinated individuals of the CDC guidance currently indicates that vaccinated individuals do not need to to quarantine if deemed as a close contact however there is a recommendation for that individual to Mercy covid testing end up the recommendations also to Odyssey watch symptoms but maintain mask-wearing for 14 days and in public spaces do talk a little bit about that as we move forward in terms of the daily health screening you know we're going to look to maintain at least for the beginning of the school year in the daily health screening is something that were asking parents to do which is a three question survey morning Cecil via to parent portal and its really asking parents to indicate whether or not their child has any covid related symptoms or has been in contact with an individual that may have test positive for covid-19 during the past 14 days I think is necessary just based on the fact that we have a lot of students returning and I want to make sure that we are mindful of one if possible encouraging students who may not be feeling well to remain at home you know so the process really entails an opportunity for a parent to see if there's a questionnaire regarding that to reach out to the school or to make a determination but but I think it's important for us would rather have a an ill student remain at home versus identifying that while the charter to school we know this is going to steal service while children at school but transitioning back in the fall we think it's important for that process to to maintain distancing a reference this shortly before as a relates to the recommendation for the row Ford document and this collaboration between the Department of Health in Department of Education recommend a 3ft distancing between students and classrooms where permissible are planning this summer or principles that have been working diligently to determine how we can kind of play that out as of today it appears that we can maintain the three feet at least 3 feet within most if not all of our educational settings imitations of if that seems to be challenging the notion is this some some modifications there are at least a potentially facing seats in the same direction we can employ the use of our dividers of barriers were necessary but as of this information with you today we believe that maintaining at least three feet of separation of the students to something that's feasible for us moving for exclusion unfortunately this is something that may occur when you go out with some of this last year I'll be sleeping so much let me see my share with you in terms of close contacts the recommendation to not consider students who were sitting between three and six feet wearing face mask not considering them to be closed contact something obviously will limit the need for exclusion and that's something that we obviously would like to promote obviously anyone testing positive for covid-19 will need to be excluded based on the latest Department Health recommendations typically it's a but you know that I'll call it the gold standard recommendation is a 14-day however defense actually it's 14 different. Excuse me 10-day for the individual testing positive with a 24-hour Something Free. And then transition back to school that's regardless of whether someone's backs need to run back to need to help you someone's eye testing positive it will need to be an explosion it's cool to have an isolation room as we did last year depending on the knee space within schools schools typically kind of Campbell that in their own way we look at our race isolation rooms almost as being an auxiliary nurse his office and that's an environment that we would Place someone temporarily if we believe that they are limiting symptoms within the school environment and typically that's kind of a place where someone will be assessed if it were a student that would be a place where he or she would wait for parent to come and pick them up it could also be a staff member to be quite honest I believe it's a place is someone obviously is exhibiting symptoms we like that to be in an environment where preferably others are not occupying that if we believe someone has exhibited those symptoms and needed to spend time in isolation room that room would be Play Ain't No one would use that room for 24 hour. But hopefully something we will not have to use but we need to be prepared nonetheless lunches lunches right now we've been as we did with our classrooms even hangout structures in in in strategies to maintain a sense of 1 reduced crowding but also facing a couple of different things are happening depending on location we got some places we were taking a student once. We're breaking that student one chop with some students will into the lunch environment the cafeteria some students may have a recess. Proportion of time to to reduce the numbers your present riding tables and we're also in the process of determining whether or not we're going to have some dividers within caught in the cafeteria to clear dividers because that will be a period of time brief. Of time the last but we'll be up here. students will not be wearing face covering all right now the expectation is that students will get their their lunch one thing we're doing to maintain some efficiency and to reduce lines and crowding is that trolls are our lunch provider has a green to still have you know our various lunch options hot lunch cold lunches but they going to be packaged in a certain way that alleviates the need for food to be out one in students kind of lining up waiting food to be disturbed so we're looking to create some efficiencies we still will have a very robust menu of choices but we will ultimately have been packaged in such a way where there more individual Thrift the other piece I'd say is that I'll hold off on Ultimate Lee we just look in a package of lunch is in the waiver and limits lines limits crowd or the one piece I wanted to what are some factors one Elementary we're going to transition with a sign seating typically at the elementary level are students sit with their class at the middle school level in high school levels at Salk Middle School Middle School typically week students a day or two to find a table that they feel comfortable with peers and then we are going to indicate to them that that will be your table that will be your seat I will adopt a similar Approach at the high school students going to get in where they going to sit and that will be where they need to remain obviously there will be time for that to change if necessary make me make fake opportunities to know rotate change but we want to use that as an opportunity obviously to know who's sitting who have a sense of predictability as it relates to the need for contact tracing mask-wearing I was this is something that we discussed before their previous meeting I think that was the August 2nd meeting I was looking at the data and anticipate the need for a district to adopt indoor mask requirement subsequent for a meeting executive 251 was enacted by Governor Murphy which indicated that was in school visuals about need you to I need to wear a mask a while indoors so we are looking to move forward with that this year now we recognize that the conditions are such that like I said before you know major difference for us this year is it obviously when we dealt with transitioning students back into school in the spring we learned a lot and you know we had the benefit I think at that point in terms of 9 having one hundred percent of our students present within building so we were operating in about a 40 to 55% in person attendance that enabled us to maintain 60 separation play comfortably numb but we recognize that the student coming back to school operating under the three-peat umbrella transitioning with in hallways and other stations have been building all individuals in school student staff and visitors will wear masks mask-wearing will not apply Outdoors so therefore we are going to have opportunities one for students to have masks breaks throughout the day we recognise that PE Outdoors will not require mask you recognize that recess will not require mask in depending on the you know we're going to provide discretion to teachers to pray those breaks especially while we have decent weather in the fall to get students out of the building it will be sometime Outdoors however will wear mask may be required if we've got a situation where you have a large number of students who are or who need to be clustered together I don't really foresee a reason for that but those will be the opportunities where we think of students going to be in close proximity for an extended. Of time it would be good judgment to wear face covering during that time and however you know obviously the student would prefer to wear a face covering during that time that that is also acceptable the difference be on the issue would be if we were gay can students in aerobic exercise especially when it's warm out or hot mess or discourage but we also believe that we can maintain the adequate separation of the students are outside which mitigates cobit at that time we'll have plenty of masks the students I'm not last year we went through a pretty big launch in terms of cloth masks that we're kind of East Windsor dripping with moving in that direction we have a abundance of mass here so someone forgets their masks we will provide them with one we recognize the time students will forget something will happen to a mass during the school I may be spoiled but we're not forgotten misplaced we have plenty to provide students as we move forward want to make sure there's every opportunity for students to be here in an engagement learning process remote virtual learning at the stamps currently part of the road for document in the Department of Education indicated that one of the have to send one of the difference is because the governor indicated that we were no longer in a public health emergency be remote virtual learning option that was available for all students last year is no longer permissible for a learning model for the year so what I mean by that is you know as things transpired last year I will see this was an option initially at the beginning of last year it was not change this position in there for committed School District to offer remote learning and it counted toward the 180-day requirement this year remote learning just in isolation will not count towards the 180-day requirement however if we believe that a student is connected to a exclusionary the exclusion criteria connected the covid-19 for example a student either is identified as testing positive for student has been identified as a post contact in a classroom and a student with that need to remain home for 14 days that student connected to a covid-19 related exclusion that would be deemed by the school nurse indicating that this is something that emanated from the school and obviously those students eligible for remote learning during that temporary covid related time other than if they were well enough to participate and that would resemble the remote learning that took place last year however it would only be temporary don't know how to fuse stop asking me a requesting why can't we engage in that same process as we did last year right now we're not permitted to use a couple of different factors that may change obviously if the health condition of the state changes if we find ourselves and Circumstance sound slightly pessimistic saying it so I don't I'm not predicting this by any means but if we find ourselves in a predicament where for example a school-based consultation with the local Health Department commended to be temporarily pause entire School engage remote learning but if we find ourselves kind of rolling into a pattern of meeting to close schools physically that is a circumstance with potentially remote learning can can can exist but more than a more than a temporary time. So there's another provision there that indicates that bar we have three emergency school days built into the calendar we've exhausted those three emergency a school days and it was just a traditional closings and we find ourselves not being able to return to school physically then then it's permissible for remote learning to count towards the one who I need a requirement but that would be because of the public health emergency preventing us from being able to come back to school full activities I mean we're looking to be really mindful of maintaining many opportunities for students to participate and engage in what we believe our schools offer and we know that students engaging in activities in and interacting with their peers is something that's really critical and vital to the development in addition to that we know that is a community there are also opportunities for the school to serve as a place for us to gather celebrate and engage with one another what I'm going to say is this we are committed to ensuring that activities occur and I could be talking about something as simplistic as a book fair to back to school night just cut some soup some social events coming up we need to be prudent how we approach the situation so I definitely want to make sure we convey a message of wanting to be creative and supporting those initiatives however I think we also need to be mindful of the things may not always look exactly as they always I've done for this year as much as I want to promote a normal year is going to be some things that are not normal about the transition to the school year but you asked for everyone's cooperation flexibility and patient because the times you may have to modify how things look one of those examples if I share last week would be back to school night typically an event will be have a significant number of families in our buildings which we appreciate and this year it doesn't seem like it it's really the right time so that's an example of something we're going to engage in remotely still will provide parents with an opportunity for what to expect during the school year but we don't think it makes sense to have hundreds of parents crammed into small spaces struggling Cardinal of frustrations that come along with that in the fall obviously we want to take advantage of outdoor spaces for those other activities that may be PTO related we recognized as a benefit to having those community events but but once again something. invited all we may have to modify what that looks like to assure that we believe this it this is safer then connected to that we are in the process right now terminating whether or not will be allowing see that permitting outside groups to use our school facilities indoors right now we pause that stemming from last year as of today I'm going to say that we are still poor we've all come outside groups to use our facilities externally but in terms of using the insides of a building I have to just say that I need us to be in a position right now with what we need to transition back to our school we need to feel comfortable about the procedures protocols and cleaning process that we have in place just for our students and teachers returning to schools on a day-to-day basis we also need to be able to support those School weighted activities that will occur when we transition to school beyond the school day I think I need to assess out that that that transition process looks like and then we will determine whether or not we want to open up our facilities outside groups I appreciate and recognize the partnership that exists between our local groups and I want to maintain that I just ask for everyone's patience because I don't want us to get too overwhelmed with the notion of cleaning erias ree cleaning areas in that SSI you pretty pretty significant process Alaska everyone's patient in terms of transitioning testing covid testing I wish I wasn't talkin about covid testing but based on the realities of where we are it appears that covid testing it's something that we need to make easy accessible for both students families and staff we going to be in the process apartment with a local lab to engage in weekly testing on site tentatively will look in my first test date I think on the 1st so what it what we envision this looking like we'll be a weekly on site opportunity for individuals to to receive covid testing of his potential the results are delivered directly to the individual getting tested we also have the opportunity with this particular lab to send individual to Somerset County send them to the test site and we're also exploring the opportunity for I still have some Stouffer's stove testing that would be kind of facility within schools we haven't finalized that yet but that's also an option with the stipend and also this lab indicates that if we need anything. We pretty much available in between weekly testing opportunities are the reason I put that on here because I got a couple of different situations happening right now one is that I want to make things easy for people with we're asking people to get a test when you do make sure it's this easy it's accessible is quick this lab is either they can provide a PCR result sometimes same day worst-case next day we have some recommendations that testing is is is a part of a process for an individual who may be deemed as a post contact and then we've got some new news today that was announced and I don't have all the specifics but Governor Murphy announced that individuals connected to school districts and I'm saying employees need to be vaccinated by October. I think it's October 18th that number wrong and then for those folks who are not vaccinated they would need to engage in weekly or sometimes twice weekly when determining your but I'm just using weekly covid testing so I believe it's an executive order that will follow the announcement today once we receive that have an opportunity to assess it week and then making a process a recommended process but how will it stop that was District have been sleeping on here this is a big topic of conversation last year in a week we are going to put this into categories based on last year we engaged in an upgrade filter system across the district we also made some adjustments to get coaxial Hardware hvc hard with you to allow more outside are to enter buildings obviously transitioning into fall asking if he knew you know tremendously environment we're going to be looking at you like Windows as best we can from a common sense standpoint I will say what we've also engaged in an ordered another order the sports more so based on the infrastructure School District in it and it relates to kind of how we're moving forward and I'll provide an update regarding some of those recommendations in the near future but in terms of us returning obviously as a step before from an activity standpoint just from a student experience during we want to make sure we maximise opportunities to get students outside making sure we got some outside are just entering spaces we have portable units within our classroom environment so we believe that we are we will prepare to transition into the phone I believe that stop there and many board members have questions I'll definitely take those now Nicole I just had a couple or the outside as much as possible is that the new movie including High School for Middle School Walker's won't use and they can be used this year when they be like carry their backpacks right now as of today I should always say that right at the beginning of an Anytime Fitness of the right now either. the middle school they will not be using lockers between classes at the high school they will be until a couple different things the middle school has some lockers inside classrooms that little bit of consistency how the structure is so we need to Max like space we believe that if it makes more sense the Middle School to not use lockers right now the high school we believe that we can accommodate that you know I have a meeting on Friday with the principals to get into some of the specifics in terms of how we manage the flow of that and where there wasn't a staggering in and so forth but we believe that we can we can accommodate that at the high school anyone else trying last time to lose there any thought or High School we're exploring stability of having some outside seating be outside seating will not be able to accommodate all the students at lunch so so therefore we would need to explore some level of consistency for tracking process for that to happen but another it was definitely looking to determine if they can create some outdoor seating on Harbison weather permitting I do not believe this will occur at the middle school or Elementary level okay babe archives of Jenna I will ask that the people asking those questions asked those questions during our public comment. Blake rumor but I actually that is an accurate rumor I am planning to have a meeting actually multiple meetings with the with the PTO president so I will be extending an invitation probably by the end of this week the second question yes I believe we can get a preliminary menu typically tacos and provide a menu for the month and we'll make sure we have that out sooner versus later so people can anticipate what the options are for September thank you Bobby shiitake you muted question words so the first question says what will be done if anything to school with covid symptoms I'd like to think that some of our screening filtering tools will prevent that but I will see if we identify students sometimes you don't know and I'm going to give us the benefit of the doubt if we identify students school who seems to be exhibiting no sim and we obviously going to replace that soon in the isolation room and contact that child family and he will he or she will need to be picked up from school and will need to be excluded for.
