Tier 1: Universal Supports provides high-quality, evidence-based instruction and interventions for all students in the general classroom. The focus is on prevention and early identification of learning or behavioral needs.

Examples of supports: differentiated instruction, classroom behavior expectations, whole group core-lessons, guided practice, regular formative assessments, social-emotional check-ins.

Tier 2: Targeted Small-Group Supports is designed for students who need additional help beyond the core instruction.. These supports are delivered in small groups and are more targeted, with progress monitoring occurring consistently.

Examples of supports: small-group reading or math interventions, targeted writing workshops, behavior/social skills groups, after-school programs, supplemental practice or resources in areas of difficulty.

Tier 3: Intensive Individualized Supports provides individualized, intensive interventions for students with significant learning challenges. Supports are tailored to student needs and delivered more frequently, with a specialist or specialized program resources.

Examples of supports: one-on-one tutoring, individualized stations or rubrics, specialized reading/math programs, afterschool and summer support programs, frequent progress monitoring and data reviews.
