hi my name is John Perillo on the assistant principal here at Hightstown High School and on behalf of the faculty and staff would like to welcome you all to this year's freshman orientation usually freshman orientation is done on the second day when she could come building you get a chance to Walk The Halls you get a chance to have the barbecue be a chance to see your classmates sadly because of covid-19 we can't do that but I can't wait to get to meet you on person and get you all back in school staff overview for this orientation one just a couple of little welcome and you can meet some people were talk about some of the expectations and some pointers for starting a school year we're to talk about the attendance policy rating in the remote settings and then talk about our schedule so this year so welcome everybody we decided to mix things up a little bit so we decided that the District administration was going to go bitmoji and we start off with mr. Benson nereis you get a chance to meet him he's wearing a bowtie but that's okay will let this one slide for now does an iguana is in charge of the 11th grade and we have mr. Blossom Drive to the 12th grade house all right now beyond that we have our counselor and support staff so I miss more I miss and Larry who you're going to meet in a minute Darren talked to you for a second we have missed tomorrow who is my secretary and the charges a freshman house you're going to get to know her really really well mr. Connolly's member of our child study team is machaca and has the car or the specialist at our intervention specialist my name is Mister Santa Maria purple contacts remember though we are responsible remember we are here to support you in any way that we can we look forward to hopefully seeing you all again soon in person all right that's Miss Moore in the Senate they're going to become very very vital to you all of you and I should get off that picture please check your email always and off here's a perfect example that's all you need is your email if your student ID at ewrsd. K12. NJ. Us hashtag check your email we send out send Larry was more will spend a lot of mission your teachers are going to send out your Google meet codes and zoom codes as well as other things and ways to get in touch with you so make sure you're checking your email often and always number to make sure your Chromebook is working in charge I know a lot of you if I put the crumbles away summer good for you make sure you go take it out Shake the Dust off charge it up and make sure it's working the last thing you would want in the first day of school to look like this number three get involved in a club or. 70 different clubs activities and sports are Hightstown High School does Liv club and an activity for everybody so make sure you really join in it's a really important part even though we are virtual right now we are going to have clubs and activities that will be off we'll be talking about those on the first day of school with you when we come back to me and then lastly make some time for yourself take some time away from the screen while you're doing school do years in those five minute times between classes just walk away from the screen take a walk to something else get some fresh air I'm going to show you in the next page than the stuff that I do to take a break I just got a new puppy I'm an avid saxophone player I played golf whenever I can and I love spending time at the beach with my wife and my kids self grading policy so here's how we're going to work rating is going to be very similar to the same way it was before the pandemic so no more checks check my check we're actually doing classroom homework test quizzes and other signs and their going to be graded and as of the portal just remember when you're doing your work you find you would make up any makeup work will be at the discretion of the teacher so do your best to get your home on time please while you're in class need to make sure your face is visible on the camera everyday make sure you're on time for class and you participate and then make sure more polite be respectful and use technology very responsibly and you have to use your own device even the Chromebook that you got from crafts they will work and when we come back into the building or a swap out and get you any devices for now your Chromebook will work some make sure you you use those alright attendance policy so students are required to attend all classes to every Zoom class that you're into you're required to be there we're going to be taking attendance like we normally would teacher will take attendance in Genesis and if you're absent from school if you're home sick f*** girl home but if you're home sick make sure your parents use the great portal system go through Genesis or give a phone call to let us know if you're not going to be in class today and more importantly as you just remember that all of your classes are part of your graduation requirements if you miss 10 days in a semester class was happy year for 19 days in a full year plastic you run the risk of losing Credit in that class so you may have to take that class again 4 worst you have to take the whole grade over again and we don't want that to happen to any of you so here we are scheduling the first day of school September 9th when you start 7:30 is your login time we're going to have zoom codes that's you in a couple of days and you'll be able to login to zoom and be set up and ready to go the first 15 minutes will be with you if you're going to go over and talk about what's going to happen on this first day of school was in their resume class we're going to a 30-minute virtual convocation it's basically a chance for mr. Benson and rest of the administrative team to introduce ourselves to the entire school and talk about the expectations that we're going to be for all students not just Freshmen and then starting at 8:15 you'll go back to regular class time with teacher to go over syllabuses Google classroom and all the other fun stuff that goes on your black. 234 and noticed we have five in between each class for you to get up take a break walk around use the bathroom have a snack take your eyes off the screen for a few minutes from 10:15 to 10:45 if 30 minutes for lunch at 10:45 to come back to classes and you're high. 5 6 and 7 on. 8 the last Thursday and 12:15 to 1:15 the first 25 minutes will be a regular instruction regular class time and then 12:45 to 1:15 would be a grave level town hall meeting what we normally do is Town Hall meetings are in the auditorium is a chance for myself and the counselor to and the in the class advisors to come in and meet with all of you and talk just freshman Lisa so we're going to run our first meeting just to let you have more information about what we're doing these two and three it's cool you're going to start again 7:30 for the class. You're a little longer than 55 minute classes again with 5 minutes in between so on Thursday you'll do periods 1 2 3 and 4 for the half hour break for lunch on Friday who carries 5 6 7 8 and against those are 55 minute classes each day from 12 to 2:15 we're doing some to call student support time for for you to reach out to your teachers to your kids counselor to the library and help desk to the nurse or to our house office give you a chance if you got a problem with your schedule if you're not sure how to do something this is your chance to reach out to them and they will also reach out to you as necessary just for the first couple of days so that's Wednesday Thursday Friday September 9th 10th and 11th so coming back on the first day on the first day of real remote learning this is what our schedule look like for the first. Is always in B6 as long as two through six will be 56 minutes with a 30 minute lunch break and the way we run our schedules to drop rotate so if you follow the cursor on the first day of birthday wish Monday would be in a day you have Piers 1 2 3 as does if there are no 4th. That fear that class was dropped for the day you go to lunch and then you have. 5 6 7 on a b day with the coming intercept Tuesday would be no. 3 no. Set so against you go to 124 go to lunch and then have. 5 6 and 8 and you can travel across the bridge here is 12143 no. To lunch 587 no. 6 D-Day No. 1 or five starts forth. 2nd 3rd lunch than 867 this schedule is what we normally used when were in the building full time but it was our schedule and this is what we do with our remote learning from September 14th all the way through November 9th remember treat your care and respect your classmates make sure you study do the best you can and also I said before don't forget to check your school e-mail so I'm sure you have a ton of questions before you do it take a break let it all sink in if you have any question make sure you reach out to anyone of us if you have a scheduling questions reach out to this more of the scent of Larry you have other questions you could certainly reach out to me at any time and as we always say it always says you always tell be safe so I want to thank you all for joining me in this freshman orientation and I hope you have a great Labor Day weekend and a great start to your school Year and hope to see you and meet you all really
