The East Windsor Regional School District will be participating in the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) and New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) Field Tests, as mandated by the New Jersey Department of Education. You were notified about these assessments a few weeks ago, but we wanted to follow up with the specific testing dates for our school.
At GNR, 4th and 5th-grade students will participate in the field tests on October 29th and 30th. We are testing from 9:00-11:00 and have made adjustments to our schedule so everyone gets recess, lunch and fine arts.
The purpose of the NJSLA/NJGPA Field Test is to evaluate the quality, fairness, and validity of new test questions before they are used in future official state assessments. This helps the state ensure that all questions are clear, reliable, and appropriate for students across different grade levels and backgrounds.
Although field test results are not graded, participation helps the New Jersey Department of Education improve the overall quality of the state’s testing program. It also provides students and educators with an opportunity to become familiar with new test items and formats.
Students who meet specific criteria are required by the state to participate in the Fall 2025 Field Test. This includes all students currently enrolled in Grades 4-10 for the NJSLA-Adaptive English Language Arts (ELA) assessment, and all students in Grades 4-9 for the NJSLA-Adaptive Mathematics assessment, as well as any students who were enrolled in Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II during the 2024–2025 school year. Grade 11 students will participate in the NJGPA-Adaptive English Language Arts (ELA) field test and will take the appropriate 2024-2025 end-of-course math assessment, if applicable. Each participating student will complete three field test units: Reading (60 minutes), Writing (120 minutes), and Mathematics (60 minutes). Students will receive questions aligned to content from the grade prior to their current enrollment.
We appreciate your support as we work with the NJDOE to ensure the continued quality and fairness of our statewide assessments. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Swist with any questions pertaining to testing.
