A Message from Mrs. Riggi (6/18/26):

Dear Hightstown High School Seniors and Families,

As we approach the final days of the school year, this will be the last weekly announcement email I send out to the Class of 2026. Writing this brings a deep sense of pride as it marks the official end to an incredible chapter.

It has been an absolute honor to serve as your Assistant Principal. Over the years, getting to know each of you—watching you grow, overcome challenges, and celebrate major milestones—has been the most rewarding part of my job. The resilience, talent, and spirit of this class have left a lasting impression on our entire school community. You truly embody what it means to be a Ram.

Thank you to the families for your unwavering support, partnership, and dedication over the years. We couldn't have guided these amazing students to the finish line without you.

To our graduates: I wish you all a safe, wonderful summer. As you step out into the world, remember where you came from, stay true to yourselves, and best of luck in all of your future endeavors. I have no doubt you will achieve great things.

I cannot wait to celebrate your hard work and see you all at graduation!

A Message from the HHS Parents Association - After Prom Volunteers Needed

After Prom is quickly approaching and we are still in need of volunteers.

Decorating: Our expert chair has a detailed planned. Everything is ready, we now need help getting it up on the walls or doors.

Monitoring (security): We need adults to monitor the areas. We will rotate the areas, so that you are not sitting in one place for more than an hour.

Common Hall Games: You’ll help the students play the games and award them prizes. It’s really about having fun!

The evening moves faster than you would think, but we will have coffee available for you.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A SENIOR PARENT TO VOLUNTEER!

In fact, it has become a tradition that graduated and underclass parents help host the event with the senior parents to help keep the event alive year after year.

Thank you in advance for supporting this event! We cannot do it without volunteers!

Dear Parent/Caregiver(s),

Our school is participating in survey data collection using the New Jersey School Climate Improvement (NJ SCI) Survey to help obtain multiple perspectives on aspects of school climate. Collecting data is important for understanding strengths and needs in our school and how it feels to be a member of the school community.

Your voice is important to us, and your opinions will help us to address current priorities. The survey is anonymous and it is voluntary. The results will be used to help create a plan to address school climate needs and make improvements to the school. You may submit a separate survey per child in the school building if you feel their experiences are different, but you do not have to.

Click here  to take the survey and enter the password: parent

If you have any questions during or after the survey, please contact David Roe at

We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to exploring new ways to continue

working together to create the most supportive and engaging learning environment for your child.

Hi Seniors,

We are so excited to celebrate the Class of 2026 with an unforgettable evening on the water. Here is everything you need to know for our night on the Hudson:

Event Schedule: Thursday, May 14th, 2026

  • Arrival & Departure: Transportation is covered by the school. Seniors must arrive at Hightstown HS by 4:15 pm. Buses will depart at 4:30 PM.

  • Boarding: Boarding at Liberty Landing Marina begins at 6:30 PM.

  • Setting Sail: The cruise will take place from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM

  • Return: We will arrive back at school at around 10:30 PM. Please ensure your transportation is coordinated in advance

  • Non-Drivers: If you do not drive yourself, you must arrange for a ride to pick you up at the school at 10:30 PM. Please communicate this timing to a guardian in advance so that everyone is picked up promptly upon our return.

Important Information

  • Attire: While there is no specific dress code, this is a "dress up" event. Button-downs, polos, slacks, cocktail dresses, sundresses, or jumpsuits are recommended. Please, no t-shirts or jeans.

  • Outerwear: It gets cold on the water! Bring a light jacket, blazer, or sweater for the outdoor decks.

Food: A dinner buffet and DJ are included. If you have specific dietary restrictions that were not already noted on your order form, please contact us immediately so we can coordinate with the cruise company.

Best,

Ms. Viggiano & Mr. Bucci

STARS

  • Accuracy matters. STARS submissions are digitally matched against the official year-end transcript. Entries must be truthful and exact.

  • Use a reliable source. Students should reference an unofficial transcript or current grade report when entering coursework and grades.

  • Match formatting precisely. Course names must mirror the transcript exactly—including abbreviations, symbols (e.g., “&” vs. “and”), and spelling.

  • Check scanned uploads carefully. If scanning a transcript instead of entering information manually, ensure the copy is clear and review all entries before submission.

  • Use a unique email address. The STARS email must match the one used for college applications and should not be shared with family members.

  • Understand portal processes. Not all colleges (e.g., Penn State) appear in the STARS dropdown menu. Students may receive follow-up instructions directly from the institution after applying.

  • Report evaluated courses only. Study halls, lunch periods, and other non-graded periods should not be included.

JOSHUA HARR SHANE SCHOLARSHIP

About Josh

Joshua embodied those traits that illustrate the very best of our young citizens, the future of our nation. He cared deeply about others less fortunate than himself and because of this, had huge dreams to become a doctor. In his junior and senior year at Hightstown High School he donated his spare time to the Princeton University Medical Center. Even with the new responsibilities of being a freshman in college, Josh continued to volunteer at the Princeton University Medical Center until his untimely death at the end of his freshman year at Rutgers University.

The Joshua Harr Shane Foundation is offering a $1,000 Scholarship to a graduating senior from Hightstown High School.

How to apply:

Students will submit an essay reflecting on how they have reached out to help others during their time of need and knowing when to come to someone’s aid, without being asked. The essay should describe how they have accomplished this task and given of themselves unconditionally.

This scholarship is not merit or need based, it is not based on GPA, or your participation in a team sport, or your involvement in any number of clubs. Although we recognize that these are important aspects of a high school student’s career, we are looking for someone well-rounded outside of school. This scholarship is about how you have reached out to help others. This scholarship is open to all senior students who wish to apply.

Submitting your Essay:

Submit essays to the Counseling Office by emailing your essay to Mrs. Mikros at

mmikros@ewrsd.k12.nj.us. Make sure you write your name at the top of your essay. All essays will be submitted to the Joshua Harr Shane Foundation for review and final selection.

Deadline:

All essays must be submitted to Mrs. Mikros by Monday, April 1, 2026

The BETHELIGHT SCHOLARSHIP:

The Young Man Behind This Scholarship

• Coby St. Phard was a dynamic young man with a bright future ahead of him. That future was cut short when Coby was taken from us due to mental illness and he died by suicide.

• In a box of memories given to Coby’s family by his classmates, one thing was confirmed for them. Coby truly was a light to all those who knew him. Although he was a star athlete, he never let that stop him from befriending a freshman or stopping at someone’s lunch table to cheer them up.

In the spirit of Coby, we want to know how you are a light to others

• This scholarship will be given to the essay that best embodies Coby’s spirit. It is not for all your academic accomplishments or for all the clubs you joined or participated in. This essay should show how you are a light to others, how you help others, how you are a friend to others.

• We want to hear about the real you, the one that cares for and takes time for others, not just activities or volunteering to pad your college transcript. How are you a light to others? How are you making someone’s day today?

Who Can Apply?

• All seniors attending Notre Dame High School or Hightstown High School, the two schools where Coby attended high school. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student from each school.

• Please include the following information:

o Name Name of Your High School

o Home Address Name & Email Address of your Counselor

o Your Email Address

o Phone Number

Deadline

• Scholarship essays should be submitted by Monday, April 6, 2026 to Mrs. Mikros in the Counseling Office or by email at mmikros@ewrsd.k12.nj.us.

A Message from Mrs. Riggi (12/19/25):

Good morning,

I hope everyone had a great week. Wishing all of our students and families a relaxing and enjoyable winter break—may this time be filled with rest, joy, and special moments with loved ones. As a reminder, Monday, 12/22, we will follow a normal bell schedule, and Tuesday, 12/23, will be an early release day. School will be closed from 12/24 through 1/4, and we will reopen on 1/5. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the new year refreshed and ready for continued success.

Happy New Year!

Please see message below from Mr. Vinson:

Dear Hightstown High School Community,

Winter Break always gives us a chance to slow down and reflect, and as I do, I am reminded just how proud and grateful I am to serve as the Principal of Hightstown High School. After many years in education and more than a decade leading this school, HHS continues to mean a great deal to me.

What makes HHS special has never really changed. It’s the people—the students who show up each day ready to learn and grow, the staff who care deeply about doing the work the right way, the families who support and challenge us, and the alumni and community members who remain connected long after their time here has passed. That sense of pride and tradition is something I value greatly.

I am thankful for the opportunity to provide steady leadership and continuity. Schools are at their best when there is trust, strong relationships, and a shared sense of purpose. Those things are built over time, through consistency and commitment, and I am proud of what we continue to build together.

As the year comes to a close, I hope you are able to step away, spend time with those who matter most, and enjoy some well-earned rest during Winter Break. Thank you for the trust you place in our school and for allowing me the privilege of leading this remarkable community.

Wishing you and your family a restful Winter Break and a healthy, happy New Year.

Dennis Vinson

Principal Hightstown HS

Dear Hightstown High School Community,

I hope this message finds you well. Hightstown High School has always taken pride in recognizing individuals who contribute meaningfully to the life of our building. Over the past several years, we have established meaningful recognitions such as the HHS Coach of the Year and the HHS Club/Activity Advisor of the Year, both honoring those who play a vital role in shaping the culture, spirit, and opportunities available to our students.

This year, during the Educational Services Professional of the Year nomination process, our committee received a thoughtful and compelling nomination for Ms. Maninder Sud, one of our school secretaries. While her nomination reflected exceptional dedication and service, state guidelines do not allow secretaries and several similar roles to be recognized under that specific award category.

This moment prompted an important reflection.

Many of our non-instructional staff members—those who serve our school quietly and faithfully each day—do not currently fall within an existing formal recognition category. Yet their contributions are essential to the daily success of Hightstown High School.

Our secretaries, security officers, cafeteria staff, custodial teams, building and grounds employees, building-based substitutes, and administrative support staff are truly the backbone of our school. Their work ensures that our building is safe, welcoming, and fully operational, allowing teaching and learning to take place each day. Their impact is steady, meaningful, and deeply appreciated.

For this reason, we are proud to announce the creation of a new annual recognition: the HHS Ram Strong Service Award. This award has been established to honor a non-instructional staff member who consistently goes above and beyond in service to our students, staff, and families, and whose work reflects the values and pride of the Hightstown High School community.

Inaugural Honoree

We are pleased to share that Ms. Maninder Sud will be honored as the inaugural recipient of the HHS Ram Strong Service Award. Ms. Sud’s professionalism, warmth, and unwavering dedication to our school community make her an outstanding choice to receive this first-ever honor. She represents the very best of Hightstown High School, and we are grateful for the care, commitment, and consistency she brings to her role each day.

Looking Ahead

Beginning this year, the HHS Ram Strong Service Award will become part of our school’s annual tradition of recognizing excellence, alongside the HHS Coach of the Year and HHS Club/Activity Advisor of the Year awards. Together, these three honors reflect the many ways individuals contribute to the strength, spirit, and success of Hightstown High School.

Each spring, we will open a formal nomination process for all three awards, providing our community with the opportunity to recognize colleagues who consistently go above and beyond in service to our students, programs, and school culture. As we look ahead, we encourage staff to begin thinking about individuals whose dedication, professionalism, and commitment truly embody what it means to be Ram Strong, and who would be worthy of future nomination.

This new award affirms a belief that has guided our school for generations:
Every role matters. Every contribution strengthens our community. Every individual deserves to be seen and appreciated.

Thank you for your continued support of Hightstown High School and for helping us celebrate all who make this a special place to learn and grow.

Sincerely,

Principal Vinson

INSTANT DECISION DAY: RAMAPO COLLEGE 12/12

For those of you interested in Ramapo College, they have rescheduled their Instant Decision Day with us. The Admissions Rep from Ramapo will be here on Friday, 12/12 to meet with individuals who have applied already.

If you need a refresher on what Instant Decision Day (IDD) is, Instant Decision Day is a special opportunity for Seniors to meet one-on-one with college admissions representatives and receive a decision based on their application materials. Please note: These admission decisions are non-binding, which means that if you are accepted, you are not required to attend that college. You may still explore other schools and make your final choice later.

If you have applied and are interested in this event, please reach out to me ASAP - alopez@ewrsd.k12.nj.us since I will need to write you a pass to attend the event on 12/12!

A Message from Mrs. Riggi (11/21/25):

Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,

For the HHS graduating Class of 2026, each graduating high school senior is required by law, as part of New Jersey’s graduation requirement P.L. 2023, c.295, to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA) in order to receive a diploma. Students/families who do not wish to complete the FAFSA must submit a waiver form to satisfy this requirement.

More information about FAFSA and the process for applying can be found here.

Beginning today, when you log into the parent portal, you will be prompted to complete a form to indicate whether you plan to submit the FAFSA or you would like to waive the requirement. If you choose to waive the requirement, this waiver will serve as your completion of this graduation requirement.

Please reach out to your student’s counselor if you have any questions.
