Dear Parent/Guardian,
We would like to share important updates about state testing for the 2026 - 2027 school year. The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) utilizes adaptive testing for the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) and the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. These versions are designated as NJSLA-Adaptive (NJSLA-A) and NJGPA-Adaptive (NJGPA-A).
The adaptive format uses technology from Cambium Assessment, Inc. (CAI) to adjust question difficulty based on each student’s responses. This creates a more personalized testing experience while measuring student proficiency against the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). The NJSLA Science assessment remains in its standard non-adaptive format.
