good morning everyone I'm so glad you were able to join us John and Jermaine can you just let me know if it sounds as good okay so we just really wanted to meet with you today to give you a little bit of information regarding it your student or your children's I'm instructional day we will be doing this in multiple rounds were concentrate on the high school on this but many of the information I met you here today most of it you will also be here again if you're in a 6 give a child and 6/8 K two or three 5 so you're more than welcome to come back a second time but you'll get the majority information here if you I just show up for one so let me start with introducing myself my name is Sandy I'm the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for this meeting really will be here directly curriculum in instruction we've decided that I really wanted to make sure that we can address concerns that have come up and let you know really what we've been planning on summer so the format we're going to do is really going to be a little bit different than what many of you are accustomed to we're going to be providing a lot of information at the end we're going to ask if you have questions that we have not addressed we're going to open up the chat room for you to write your questions in here and then we will we're going to create an FAQ on the high school website I will be able to answer any of your questions at that point so we're really trying to keep this the 30 minutes because we know many of you are working whether it's from home or going into the office so I want to reduce my co-partner with this presentation today is Dennis Lynn Smith we have the assistant principals and supervisors also online so if there is something that we go through and either Dennis and I just very quickly go through it and somebody else sees and needs to be emphasized it free to join in on the conversation okay so that's how we're going to go through looking from here so I'm going to share my screen with you so that you can see the presentation and then the presentation will also host the district website as well as the high school website so that you have it as a reference I really just want to go through as much as we can with you that you can see the plans but you don't expect you to digest everything today so give everything a presentation that we will provide for you so as I share my screen with you you're going to see hopefully everything is very clear for everybody so as he said his parent and student dies we were the first biggest thing we want to make sure that you realize that we're in this together we're working together we're not expecting you to be the teachers of the curriculum in your classroom but to be the support your child just as if we were in the photo quotes Channel setting and traditional way that we've come to know that you'll see a table of contents in this presentation as well that if you click on any one of them it'll take you to slide that will give you information that you're looking for our next one that we come down to is really our message to you is it a we really want you to know this is going to look much different than it did in the spring so there were a lot of concerns about what happened in the spring and quite frankly we use administrators had many concerns so we feel that we really learned from these this way we did it we looked at the spring as being crisis learning and cry is teaching more so than true teaching and learning we are expecting that starting on September 9th that we have true teaching and learning happening we're going to provide resources this is not the only present it will be hard we will have some presentation to help you to be able to help your child as the year goes on but everything that we're going to talk about today is what we're doing from now until mr. Daniels said she was the expectation to come back to school or work go into a hybrid in November so everything we're dealing with is what's going to happen in the immediate future so we ought we have plans for everything that are happening we will say that this is a new Uncharted territory for all of us that we may have to modify some things but I think that we have the team has put together we were central office administrators we have rebuilding supervisor and teachers all part of this plan so we really do believe we got a good taste of what everybody saw work and didn't work and had to be modified our next thing is that we want to make sure that we can you can help us in this one area in your is it is what we noticed that in the classroom teachers on the students come in and they know hey this is my classroom this is what's expected of me during this test so we're going to ask for some if I'm some supports and I know it's very difficult when you have multiple students multiple children your houses and you also are working from home but if there's a way to create a small designated area that the workplace at home we really think that that's going to help the students know okay when I'm sitting here I know I am at school I'm expected to be in class one of the things we will tell you is that we've taken into consideration because any of us who have been working from home or even in the office at this point you feel like you're very stagnant you're sitting a lot more than you used to we have put into our curriculum class. That we are giving a time to get up and move physically to do that as well as being able to do some smaller chat rooms like we would have done small groups in the class so we're going to ask if you have to just have a little area for your child to help them to create a learning space that is conducive for them when they are working we will then go through and talk about some of their links all of these you will notice the when you get this that you were going to create some links in here as to my next ride as to how you can help your child in any of these areas needs of the resources that we will use high school is Chromebook most of your cousin today if you had a child April 11th last year that is the device that your child use Google Classroom is not new to anyone Zoom it might be new for students last year we did a lot of research over the summer and we see that soon as much user-friendly has a lot more bells and whistles to help us in our classroom settings so we're moving over to zoom we are not from Google meet away and the next thing is is the Wi-Fi most who were with us last year nose and if there was a Wi-Fi connection issue where that you did not have enough bandwidth that you would be able to reach out to get that from us and that Still Remains the Same if there's something that you need you will reach out to your brain level assistant principal or the main office and we will get you what it is your child so that's how we're working on that one the same as last year these are this is what I was referring to in the last side these are the any one of them they will give you a little tutorial if you was a parent wants to know what's his we're not asking you to teach your child because we're going to take care of that during the first couple weeks of school mini training put on students so that they feel comfortable but this is in case you're interested in seeing anything that we need or how to get into Google a meet for a Google fast in the Grade Portal any of those things that you would need and then Dennis you're on good morning yeah so we will be putting the high school schedule on this language put it in there right now so I'm just going to talk a little bit about what are spell schedule look like we will be sharing that out again I'll be on the way and Asthma small spoke about on the front page of the high school website we will have resources and updates and information so it's one Stop Shop will go there are schedule for the high school will look very similar to what our schedule would look like if we were in school free covid-19 our drop schedule will start our day difference for a student is in MARC schedule we will just have one lunch. And we've been bedded to lunch. Into that so when you get your schedule you can look at that and that is linked there right now so if you wanted to click into that schedule you can take you don't have access to it yet so important parts with the schedule we will be releasing schedules shortly you access your child schedule for the parent portal you will have to acknowledge them documents I'm just the same protocol that we've done from previous year so once the schedules in their your child will see their schedule and will be up and running on we did send send out movie send it out again or first day of school your child will see every one of their classes and abbreviate schedule so there will be more coming out on that I'm going to be about self your what Your Child schedule looks like students need to attend all sessions during live in after SEC Sunset talk about that the expectation for this fall is different than it was in the spring the expectation is that you will attend play Taps at the scheduled time so your child will attend school don't go to there class. They'll be a passing time literally passing time to the next. Obviously if for example if they have a study hall then they would be off tonight. If it's teacher is absent at the high school very similar to what happened free Tobin we obviously will not be sending them to our no RMS what we call the puddle where they would be supervised But the teacher is absent will put work into the Google Classroom we will notify all students at the part of the day that serves their teachers absent for that day but they should attend their Google session and do the work they would do like they would normally do it they were in school again we talked about we have some you'll break options there's there's one scheduled we will at the district level we will continue to provide if needed the breakfast and lunch options and Ward more details will be coming out regarding how you would have taken a lunch so we are continuing continuing the process that we did before cell what's really important is we wanted the idea of the schedules so that there is consistency so students realize what their expectations are for their day when they should start there and when their day at so it's very much structure that's one of the biggest things we've heard from everyone parents and students that they wanted the structure two structures would help our students so we're kind of going back there so you know we want to make sure you take yeah I'll take your time you want to work hard it's recognized you want to make sure that no children are being supported can communication be critical to a street teachers are communicating checking in my team will be communicating and is it a very good job in Spring asking for assistance but didn't want to make sure we maintain that schedule before the next one small student attendance this is critical this is one area in the spring that we really did not we wanted a lot of flexibility in the spring we all know that however we need to make sure we hold students accountable for their work so students are required to attend all class sessions just like any case if there's if there's something that happens we just need to the expectation is that we will be taking attendance just like we wouldn't've typical year you need to be present in the remote setting need to be visible need to be absent students not feeling well or unable and you would call them out you would contact grade level office myself and you would just tell them why they're not coming into work as simple as going into the portal itself and just need to make Dorman High School perspective for credit you need to file what's in bold you're going to District policy in we need to make sure students are in class so they do not lose so it's important we look at that there's an issue we just need to be made aware of it but the expectation is that students will be live at the. Time when they when we lock in we're going to talk a little bit more and talk about what the zoom will look like what we want to see a little bit more later about if they want to change their background have a little bit more privacy hundred percent fine but we want to see your children want to interact with them as as much as we can resume the past 15 photo okay so our next thing that we knew was a concern too many parents as well as teachers was the whole grading concerns that happened in the spring that students Dennis was just talkin about the attendance was pretty much how students if they if they provided information or hands at Material in then they receive credit for we are back to how we traditionally grade based on students under sanding ability to work through things taking feedback and then working through that feedback as well as your traditional assessments that we did this knew this provides new opportunity which I'm not going to season all bad things in some ways we're learning how to do things a little bit better so we will have opportunities for small groups Zoom allows us to go through and do what they call breakout rooms and in the breakout room we can still do small groups or a teacher's able to we can also go through and do groups are individualized so the teacher needs to do some conferencing or 101 from the class. Checking in whether it's a paper someone's doing or if they have some unique needs or not yes. So we are making sure that all of this is into in place here but we are also going to say there may be some new things that are being rated because again will provide unique opportunities in this new way of teaching and to be able to say hey here's an area that you're working with you know it hasn't review of right to be assessed on this and graded on this because you put a lot of time and energy in it so we're working through with teachers as your what should be graded what should be formative assessments to know where my class are my child is in the gross aspect encourage you as parents and Guardians as well as our student grade portal regularly make sure that you can check the students frog they can see how they're doing if they take ownership for their learning and ask help that's the biggest thing is that we're trying to work through if you like I can't always necessarily say hey on the screen I can see that you need some support we've got to be able to he's our students advocate for himself which is what we will be doing in those first two weeks of school and then we would tell you that our child that your child as well as you should be aware of the makeup policy in the handbook modify based on information that a teacher gets regarding a student situation but then was what we are going to try to appear to a bet it is something is due on a Tuesday at 8 a.m. after Tuesday 8 a.m. it will be late just as if we were in school we were are going to go through and here's some of the new things that we're going to be put into place that weren't necessarily part of what we had done in the spring and one of them is that we are done mr. Benson has had already alluded to it we are going to tell students and teachers that at all times or class their face needs to be visible we understand unique family situations one of the things Zoom allows is what mr. Talk about is being able to create a backdrop in your profile so that as a monitor zoom zoom call if I don't want someone to see the windows in the back of my office there I can put a picture of my dog I can put in a picture of an outdoor scenery I can put multiple pictures on here that we will teach your child to do so that they want something besides Within rumor in the living room or in the kitchen making do that so there's a little bit more comfortable but they don't need to worry about who's saying what's in their space of learning their we are going to ask that during instructional time use the district district the signs of ice and there's a reason behind this once they're out of school out of class time they can use whatever device they choose the reason we're asking for their districts are signs of ice to be is dark Glass series is this will allow the flexibility for a teacher that as they're teaching if they see that they need some modify something typically in a bathroom they would be able to pull it up on your screen so what we wear our needs to do is be able to push those things outdoor students devices immediately and that would also include assessments that a child would be able to get the assessment on their screen at the time the teacher wants it and we can only do that through a program that works on our district devices so that to be a little bit different but Dad is why mr. Vincent is put in all, who needs a Chromebook who needs wi-fi we will provide any of those things that you need the svensson also spoke a little bit about we do have set times for each of our class. So in the morning they will have three periods the expectation is that suing her on time they will be counted as late just like they would in the fast. Our teachers we had to have a genocide leaves of 5 minutes changing. Time so as soon as do have five minutes between classes if they need to go grab a drink or if they need to go through and use the restroom or just get up and walk around but we will answer their back on screen on time we are going to speak to their students being a active in the classroom whether it's you know some of our thumbs up thumbs down whether it's speaking in the chat if there's a question that's going being able to be part of group group work and things like that there we will talk about being respectful that this is not if this is what we're going to want to call a judgement-free zone that if a child has a question or if there's something that hey you know what I don't even know how to do that Shopkin somebody help me this is all part of us but the biggest thing to this we want to make sure that our students and you as parents take care of yourself and we want to have fun we want to make sure that we can bring some of the social aspect back into our students lives I know this is going to struggle I'm in Geneseo and take the next I'm just a follow-up on what mismo said we are embedding we're looking at virtual experience is also once we get off and running you are going to look at ways that we can bring in some of our Mastery School and we also are looking at providing some during the day when teachers are off the teachers will have off. Wolf Bill be a sign to support students like we would in previous years and resource room so we're looking at ways we can support students route today book and I think it just goes back to what we were talking about you know it's kind of respectful they do that I do think the feedback we receive from the spring one students were in their their Google meets it was respectful and we had very minor in Sims without them with my mistress team make sure they all Simon's or complete and submit on time if they need to take a break that's fine but we're working that out in the beginning days when we start back up we will be you and these expectations with our our students in our teacher so this will not be the first time that you've heard of nor with your child. We are looking at participation points by 10 on that about we are going to try as much as possible to make school fun I think that's really important we have a really productive meeting the other day with student leaders and they're already starting to look at ways that we can do things in a virtual way that's the I think it's really important they work hard and they also take care of themselves I think it's a parent these are just some helpful tips and checking in often with your child in modern progress I think it's as simple as just asking you know what classes do you have today do you have any assignments this review to great in the portal it's really important to go into the portal and take a look at that there's always Dad show some time to view what's going on in the Google classroom but when your child's working and if you'll take a look what's going on at the end of the day very important also I'm with what's due tomorrow do you learn what was hard you need help what we do to make tomorrow better I think that's the other part I've heard a lot of parents talk about setting up an environment that's conducive to a classroom if you look at the news when the hardest thing to find right now is a desktop or trying to get the transitions that so we want to make sure we have everything set and then the goal also is to get ready to when we can come back to a hybrid model that they're ready to transition back can we were talking a lot about mods checking in off of your child monitor progress due dates will be important go beyond of your child's Google Classroom the calendar that we're going to make sure all our teachers post those States that's one of the things an RN if your child falling behind just like we would do normally please communicate we will be monitoring the grades of my team with the counselors something that we did I think we did more last year because it was in a virtual we'll be monitoring and I think we will be talking to our staff also about communicating so we'll make sure that we communicate what's going on if you need a meeting I'm simply asked what the Ducks most important thing but if you need can just ask then here are a list of some just likes to Ports general information main office or grade level please contact the teacher emails or listed counselors numbers phone calls or return and then we also have some links here for just Wellness guys we are working to make sure that we have a very strong communication link if you and Bo still time you want some phone with me to call if email works we'll make sure we reach out this way so we're going to make sure that we that we are really going to encourage your child to regularly monitor their email to have to be on their school that's something we really emphasize good job of that without to be critical a lot of information will be coming through there they're their website will be brave and then also emails and on this page here they'll be length you can click into that either just links that for contacts and again I'll keep referring back to the high school website were we're going to have a remote learning chart with documents and areas for you need help if there's a technology problem something's not working you hit the link and we'll will put you in touch with the right people so again world world will be up and running I seen the high school administrators will be here in the building will be communicating regularly just the wrap wrap up my portion this will be doing a freshman virtual orientation will be doing a Convocation at the store for students everybody fast we're not just throwing everybody back into day one of them you want to make sure that they have the tools and their support I know we talked about a lot in the short. Of time but one of the things that we do see me and we talked a lot about heroes that are happening and you know we're all in this whole new way of learning and be a living so we looking as you guys as your parents and working from home with your cha are you guys are heroes are teachers are heroes administrators like this is a group together that is coming to create a path that hasn't been before so there is some flexibility that's needed the support that we can be for one another even as a parent if you need clarification for yourself even if your child thinks that they have it if there's something that you are concerned about reach out there are numerous people who are more than willing to go through and give you anything you need I'll cuz as a parent we know our child is our primary concern that if they're anxious or whatever we become anxious so whatever we can do to help support you in supporting your child were here for you we have any type of service that you and the biggest thing is that knowing that we're learning this together we're in this together and we will get through this things will get better I believe that we will be able to make a big difference in our students lives and in your child children why would I want to take a just like 4 minutes left we tried to keep it as at 30 minutes and I know we weren't going to take any questions here but I want to give you another 4 minutes write any questions you have in the chat and then we will have these up by the end I can see by the end of Wednesday as many responses as possible I will ask you to forgive us if the format is not 100% a line because of multiple people going through given the responses we will make sure that rank is live and Dennis will be able to put something out to the parents to know hey here are the questions cuz we have that we have another meeting tonight or anyone who was not able to make this one so we will put all our questions together how to respond to everything in there okay so I'm hoping that this was a value to you and that you were able to at least get a sense that things are going to be okay that we are working through the other that we worked really hard this summer and we I really do believe that we're going to have a year that our kids are going to be able to grow and Blossom from and together we're going so far okay so thank you very much when you do you have finished putting any questions in the chat feel free to log off and anything you need remember we're here for you
