Benefit Effective and Termination Dates

Guidelines for the continuation of coverage for Health Benefits (post-separation) for major medical, prescription, dental, and vision coverage.

 

I. At the beginning of employment

 

  • Benefits will begin on your first day of work.
 
II. At the end of employment
 
  • Benefits will end on your last day of work. If a 10-month staff member is leaving the district after the last contract day the benefit termination date will be June 30.

  • Individuals retiring and enrolling in the Retired Group SEHBP with 25 years of Health Benefit eligibility 10 and 12-month employees coverage will not be extended due to immediately being covered under SHBP. Example( retire September 30 go on SHBP October 1).

  • It is the employee's responsibility to enroll in post-retirement benefits.  For more information, please refer to the Division of Pensions and Benefits website.  All questions can be directed to the NJ Dept of Benefits and Pensions at the Call Center at 609-292-7524.

  • Individuals retiring with under 25 years and are not  SEHBP Health Benefit eligible. 10 and 12-month employees receive one-month additional coverage from the district. Example ( retire September 30 go on Cobra November 1). The district allows employees to purchase benefits at full cost through a third-party administrator. Please refer to the plan cost sheet.  
 
III. Age Out of Dependents
  • Dependents of covered employees are covered until December 31 of their 26th birthday for medical and prescription coverage.
  • Dependents of covered employees are covered until December 31 of their 25th birthday for dental coverage.
