Hello GNR families,

Happy Last Day of School!  On behalf of the GNR staff, thank you for a wonderful 2019-2020, school year.  It was truly a unique year for all of us but it taught me that GNR Bulldogs are strong and carry PRIDE traits wherever we teach and learn!  Thank you for coming together and working with the GNR staff to make remote learning a positive experience for your children.  We miss your children more than words can express.   We look forward to the day we can reopen GNR’s doors to our students.  Good Luck at MHK, 5th graders!  See you in September, 3rd, and 4th graders!  Have an awesome, healthy, and safe summer! June 3, 2020 - Remote Learning Day 48

Hello GNR families,

Thank you so much for all of the great questions regarding student belongings pick-up days.  There is no playbook for this, so we are creating it as we go.  I want to share more details as a number of parents helped me further outline ways to make this streamlined and safe for all.

  • Pick-up information in Spanish. https://youtu.be/_WuMaf991ZI

  • Siblings:

    • Yes, we will accommodate siblings so families only need to come to GNR once.

      • Please come to GNR at the first pick-up time. For example- if you have a child slated on Monday, June 15, and one on Tuesday, June 16, we will have the sibling bags ready on Monday, June 15, at the designated time.

  • If you are moving, please bring your Chromebook on the day of the pick-up so we can collect it.

  • Grade 5 Parents-- All grades are picking-up during the homeroom teacher time slot, not block one.

  • If your pick-up location is in the back of the building behind the school on the bus loop by the cafeteria, be aware the street signs discourage you from driving in that direction.  The signs are only for when school is in session.  You may drive to the back of the building.

  • Student Belonging Pick-Up Days:

    • This only applies to parents that answered the survey stating they wanted their child’s belongings.

    • Thank you for replying when your teacher surveyed you to find out if you wanted anything from GNR from your child’s locker, cubby, or desk.

    • Your teacher can confirm that you requested belongings for your child.

    • We appreciate your flexibility.  We are only able to offer one-time slot per homeroom.

    • Due to social distancing and our desire to keep both parents and staff safe, the following process will be in place for pick-up:

      • One parent or guardian should arrive in a car at GNR on the designated date and time.

      • Please wear a mask.

      • Please have a sign, no larger than 8x11 paper needed, with the first and last name of your child and homeroom teacher’s name. Example: Jacob Felicetta, Mrs. Dlabik.

      • Please drive to the designated pick-up location.  Please stay in your car and keep it running so the car line will keep moving in a timely manner.  See the schedule below for one of the three pick-up locations:

        • Front loop by the main entrance

        • Behind the school on the bus loop by the cafeteria

        • The preschool loop

      • GNR Staff will be waiting, wearing masks, with the student belonging bags/yearbooks.

      • Once it is your turn in the car line-up, please hold up the sign with your child’s name and teacher name.  Please do not roll down your window.

      • A GNR staff member will collect your child’s bag.  The GNR staff member will show you the name on the bag to ensure there is a match.

      • The GNR staff member will open the trunk and place the bag in the trunk.

      • The GNR staff member will close the trunk and wave goodbye.

May 6, 2020 - Remote Learning Day 32

Hello GNR families,

With the Governor's announcement of schools buildings remaining closed through the end of the school year, I’ve received a number of inquiries:

  • Yes, we are working on a plan to get student belongings from the building to parents.  I do not have details yet, but I will be in touch as soon as we have a plan.

  • Yes, we will share details to collect the packets and let you know how or if we are collecting the Chromebooks.

  • We are working on plans for celebrating our fifth graders and making a smooth transition for all of our students to the next grade level.  More to come soon.

  • Please remember, school is not canceled. The physical building is just closed. The GNR staff is working diligently to deliver the best possible instruction during remote learning. We will continue to strive to make connections with your students and deliver as much new material as we can between now and the last day of school.

  • Please be reminded that students should log onto google meets and online assignments to complete as much of the work as possible so they are in good standing for next year.  We understand completing work without a teacher present is challenging, but do your best!  That is all we are looking for from students; try, participate, ask questions, attend google meets, and do your best.

  • Treat remote learning with PRIDE- Perseverance, Respect, Innovation, Dependability, and Enthusiasm!  It is the Bulldog way!

  • We miss you, GNR students, and families.  We look forward to a great end to the school year!

This allows you to purchase keepsake products customized with your child's art.  These make great gifts and a percentage of every purchase goes right back to our school. This can be something to brighten the day of a family member or friend.  There are over 50 products and many are less than $15.

Click on the link below and search for your child’s artwork by typing in their name.

If your child had Art Class during Trimester 1 and Trimester 2, their artwork will show up.

If your child was scheduled to have Art Trimester 3, it will say artwork not received. These students did not have a chance to create their artwork at school. They may go to the website, click on their name, and upload artwork that they have created at home. They will not be using the paper supplied by the company so the quality might be different, but it is an option.

March 27, 2020- Remote Learning Day 9

Hello GNR families,

  • Quote of the day:  “Knowledge will bring you the opportunity to make a difference.” ― Claire Fagin

  • Thank you for all of your feedback.  The website and schedules have been revamped for week three.  We hope this will help you be able to find materials more readily and that the schedule is smoother.  Our hope is you can follow the schedule and complete the work over the course of the week. Please reach out to your teacher if your child needs support in making a schedule that works for them.

  • If the work seems daunting for your child, please prioritize Literacy (reading and writing) and Math.  Then, please move onto the SS and Science. And finally, please have students work on Fine Arts and Specialist work.

  • Should we continue remote learning after spring break, we will move to students working by their current year schedule and only work with their trimester 3 fine arts teachers.  At present, students can pick whatever fine arts they’d like to work on. This will change if we continue remote learning after spring break. The fine arts teachers will be in touch with their trimester 3 students should we continue remote learning.

  • Remote Learning Week 3 Materials are now posted on the GNR Remote Learning Website.  There is a separate tab labeled “Week 3” along the top tabs.

  • Week 3 Letter from the Fifth-grade team:

  • Week 3 Letter from the Third and Fourth-grade teams:

  • PreK students will receive week three information directly from their teachers.

Thanks,
Mrs. Felicetta

March 20, 2020 - Remote Learning Day 4

Hello GNR families,

  • Quote of the day:  "All students can learn and succeed, but not on the same day in the same way." - William Spady

  • Thank you so much for all of your efforts to keep up with remote learning.  We understand there is a lot of work for the students and want to remind you to pace yourselves.  This is going to be a marathon, not a sprint. Please do not worry or feel like you must get everything done quickly.  It is okay to prioritize and do the best you can. The daily schedule is two to four hours of school work and learning a day.  We are all overwhelmed with working, parenting, worrying, and teaching. Just remember that health is the top priority for all of us.  Feel free to reach out to the counselors and CST members if your child is feeling overwhelmed.

  • Trimester Two Report Cards are now posted on the parent portal.

  • The Mercer County Library has created a new Youtube channel. The librarians are doing read-alouds and crafts:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu-ZfxIyfyZlJSOR0kj7UxA

  • Junior Library Guild Digital? They just announced they will be allowing everyone free access to ebooks and audiobooks. These include popular titles!

Some businesses have moved to pick-up and delivery only, while others have limited their hours of operation. For all that information and more visit the Downtown Hightstown Facebook page.

  • As per the daily schedule for remote learning, the fine arts classes can be mixed and matched.  Students should be doing all fine arts, not just one. The same is true of ST. For PE, they are to do both health and physical activity.  I hope this clears up miscommunication.
